Get off WordPress

Get off WordPress without losing the site you paid for.

Your pages move across, every address still works, and what you land on has no plugins to update and no maintenance retainer.

I will tell you what moving it would take, and reply within 24 hours.

What it is costing you

The update, the plugin that broke, and the invoice that follows

WordPress runs code on a server every time somebody visits a page. That is why it can do almost anything, and it is also the whole of the maintenance problem. The core updates. The theme updates. The plugins update on their own schedule, and one of them eventually updates into another one.

So somebody has to watch it. Either that is you at eleven at night, or it is a retainer to a person who charges you every month to apply updates and be there when a page goes white. Neither of those is building you anything. You are paying to stay where you are.

The other cost is quieter. Pages built in a page builder exist inside that page builder. The layout, the spacing, the arrangement of the thing lives in a plugin’s own format, so the day you want to leave, the pages do not come with you in any state you would want to publish.

What you land on

Eleventy and Sveltia, both open source, both named

Named, because the ownership claim is only true if the thing underneath has a name you can look up, hire somebody else to work on, and keep using if I disappear.

  • Eleventy builds the pages. The result is plain files. Nothing executes on a server when a visitor arrives, which means there is no plugin surface to exploit and nothing to patch on a Tuesday because somebody published an advisory. A page that is already a file is also fast in a way a page assembled on every request is not.
  • Sveltia is the editor. Your office manager opens it, writes an article, edits a service line, and publishes. It is the same editing job WordPress does, without the dashboard that also contains forty settings nobody in your office should ever touch.
  • GitHub holds the site, in a repository in your name. Every change is a commit with a date and an author against it, so the question of what changed and who changed it has an answer rather than a guess. Anything published can be rolled back. This is version control, which is how software has been handled for twenty years and how almost no small business website is handled.
  • The accounts are yours from the moment they exist. The repository, the hosting and the analytics are created with you in the room, in your name. Not transferred to you afterward, which is a promise, but opened in front of you, which is a fact.

Both Eleventy and Sveltia are open source. That is not a licensing detail, it is the exit: there is no vendor who can put the price up, change the terms, or go out of business and take your website with them. The bill that remains is hosting, which runs a few dollars a month on your own account, and I will show you that bill before you commit to anything.

What you get

Two ways off, both priced on this page

The move

$3,600

Your content moved across, page for page, in the structure it is already in. For a site whose content is right and whose problem is what it is sitting on.

Every existing address preserved or redirected, so the pages people already reach still work and search does not have to relearn your site. A repository, hosting and analytics account created in your name, with you in the room. A route to an enquiry on every service page, with the enquiry counted, which WordPress was almost certainly not doing.

What is in the move

The rebuild

$9,500

For a site where the content is the problem too, and moving it across would only relocate that. Every page type you need: home, the services you sell, the people, articles, contact.

A design system built for your business rather than a theme with your logo dropped into it. A separate route to enquiry for every service. A photography session at your premises, arranged and directed by me. Kinetic CMS included, so you publish your own pages. Care included for three months.

Proof

A site built end to end

Wrenfield Estate Law

A demonstration build on exactly this stack, made to show the whole thing running at once: every service with its own route through to an enquiry, a design system underneath it, and the counting live from the first visitor.

The business and the content are fictional, so nothing on it is a claim about anyone. The build, the publishing and the counting are real and running.

The three things you are thinking

WordPress is not the problem for everybody.

It is not. It runs a large share of the web and a lot of those sites are fine. If yours is maintained, fast, and somebody in the office publishes to it without dread, there is nothing here worth paying for. This is for the ones where the last three items on the invoice were all updates.

What happens to my search rankings.

Every address is preserved or redirected, one to one. That is the part a cheap move gets wrong and the reason it is worth paying somebody to do it: a move done without redirects is how businesses lose rankings they spent years accumulating.

Who edits it once you are gone.

Whoever edits it now. Sveltia is an editor, not a developer tool, and the handover is a live walkthrough with the person who will actually be doing the work rather than a document nobody opens. Publishing is versioned, so anything they publish can be rolled back.

The price

Half to start, half at launch. On both.

The price on this page is the price. I do not quote larger after the conversation, and there is no discovery fee in front of it. If I look at your site and think the move is the wrong purchase, I will tell you that instead of selling you the bigger one.
