What it is costing you
Ninety dollars a month, forever, for something you will never own
The arrangement is common and it works like this. A directory or a marketing company builds you a site and charges eighty to a hundred and fifty a month. The site sits on their platform. The content is in their database. The domain is often registered to them.
Ten years of that is somewhere north of twelve thousand dollars, and at the end of it you own nothing. If you leave you lose the site, the pages, the addresses those pages sit at, and whatever search position they had accumulated. So nobody leaves, which is what the model is for.
The site itself is usually the same template as every other business on the platform, with your logo in it.

- A repository, hosting and analytics account created in your name. With you in the room while they are set up. Not transferred to you later. Yours from the moment they exist.
- Every existing address preserved or redirected. So the pages people already reach still work, and search does not have to relearn your site.
- A route to an enquiry on every service page, with the enquiry counted. Which the platform was almost certainly not doing.
- The monthly fee gone. Hosting on your own account runs a few dollars a month, and I will show you the bill before you commit.

If you want it rebuilt properly rather than moved, that is the business site at $9,500 and it includes photography and the CMS. I will tell you honestly which one your site deserves, and about half the time it is the cheaper answer.

How it goes
Four steps, and you cancel last
- I read the site and check what is actually portable. Some platforms make this easy and some make it deliberately hard. You find out before you pay anything past the deposit.
- You give notice on your own timing, not mine. Nothing gets cancelled until the replacement is live.
- I build, you review it on a private address, and we switch the domain over on a day you choose.
- Then you cancel.

Will I lose my search position.
Every address is preserved or redirected, which is the thing that protects it. A move done without redirects is how businesses lose rankings, and it is the reason this is worth paying somebody to do.
They own my domain. Can I even leave.
Usually yes, and it is a transfer request rather than a negotiation. Where the domain genuinely cannot be recovered I will tell you before you pay, and the answer is a new domain with redirects, which is worse but survivable.
What if the content is terrible.
Then moving it is the wrong purchase and I will say so on the first read. Bad content on your own domain is still bad content, just cheaper.
